While in the office, do you schedule time for a work break every hour or so? Perhaps more important, do you use that break time for the benefit of… you?
You already know all about work-life balance. You work hard, but you always make time for the important stuff. Things like healthy exercise, spending time with family and friends, and indulging in hobbies. You also know how important it is to take a break from work. But what about the breaks you take while you’re working?
Taking a work break during your work-day can help to maximize your productivity. Sure, with everything else you have going on you may think you don’t have time. But even a 30-second break to watch a video of frolicking kittens can increase your productivity.
Take a Work Break!
As with work-life balance, there are also different strategies for a work-break balance. And it’s important to find the right strategy for you, your job, and your lifestyle. For example, try out a 25/5-minute split — that means work in 25-minute blocks and take five-minute breaks between. If that doesn’t work for you, there’s also 50/10 minute split.
What you do during your breaks is just as important. If you only have five minutes, eat a healthy snack, read an article, or even watch that kitten video. When you have 10 minutes, make a coffee run, tidy up your desk, or watch a longer video… maybe of kittens and puppies. And if you’ve got more than 10 minutes? Take a walk outside, call a friend or family member, or even sit in a cafe and watch several kitten and puppy videos! (No, you really can’t go wrong with kitten and puppy videos.)
