CareerBuilder’s recent survey identifies factors that are important to today’s job candidates. The survey found that only 32% of employees plan to change jobs this year. Though that number remains low, it doesn’t mean that employees aren’t looking.

Benefits and Convenience
Of the many factors that influence candidate expectations, compensation is important, but it isn’t the only thing. Keeping in mind that most job seekers are employed, the top considerations that would be of interest to employed job seekers are benefits and commute time. And perks that entice them to apply to a job include half-day Fridays, on-site fitness centers and award trips.
Training and Development
More than 50% of employees said their current employer didn’t provide enough training or career-advancing opportunities. Furthermore, of those employees without access to outside training or workshops, more than 70% said they would likely participate if it were offered.
“To fill vacant roles, an increasing number of companies are training workers who may not have the skills needed but do have potential for higher-skill jobs.”
Keeping Options Open
Employees are taking a proactive approach and keeping their employment options open! 29% report regularly searching for jobs while employed. And 51% say they’ve looked for other jobs even after an offer has been extended and the background check is in process. 78% say that they are not actively looking for a new role, but would be open if the right opportunity came along.
Application Easy To Use
Candidates expectations include using their mobile devices to apply to jobs. Employed job candidates say they would not complete an application if it was difficult or confusing (42%) or took to long to complete (31%).
Today’s Candidate Expectations: What This Means
The job seeker is driving change in the recruiting process and employees also have more influence over their employer. If you are not 100% satisfied with your job, now would be a great time to actively look for a new opportunity.
If you want to see changes made inside your company, changes that would keep you there, talk to your boss. Or ask HR about implementing better perks, training opportunities, or even a raise!
