The People’s Perspective: What is the State of Social at Work?

We keep hearing that social media is infectious at work. In fact, many companies – much to the chagrin of their younger employees – have strict policies against use of handheld devices and social while on the job.

But is social really a big issue at work? Do we dive for our devices every chance we get? These numbers might surprise you:

  • Just 1 in 5 minutes spent online is for social networking
  • Managers are twice as likely to use social at work than employees
  • Feeling it would help them sell, collaborate and serve customers better, both managers and employees want more social at work

Another interesting data point, especially considering that nearly every company says they are active on social: just 19% of employees in the US consider their company a “social enterprise.”
