3 Job Search Excuses College Students Must Avoid (and Why)

If you’re college student, and don’t have a job lined up, you are not alone. In fact, you may be in the majority.

80.2% of students interviewed in the 2013 AfterCollege Job Seeker Survey said they had no job lined. Forty-five percent said that they found the job search to be difficult or very difficult. In 2012, 63% said the same thing and in 2011, 62% agreed that finding a job was difficult or very difficult.

We understand the job search process can be intimidating, especially while you’re still in school, but we want to make sure you’re giving it your best effort. Here are a few common excuses that may be creating a barrier between you and a job. Any of them sound familiar?

We Gen Y-ers definitely have a case of “instant gratification-itis”. We no longer have to sit through commercials or even for dial-up to get online. Why should we have to wait to become CEOs or work at a job that isn’t totally perfect? We should be living our dream life with our dream jobs right out of college, right?

Sadly, the world doesn’t work like that, and we can’t expect it to. We have to change our attitudes to fit the economy we found or are finding ourselves in.
