The San Diego Armed Services YMCA provides comprehensive, ongoing services to military service members and their families through over 40 free programs within four departments: Family Outreach, Military Youth and Community Outreach, Active Duty Programs, and Wounded, Injured and Ill Programs at Naval Medical Center to make military life easier. The San Diego Armed Services YMCA is one of the branches of the Armed Services YMCA of the USA, a top-rated, fiscally responsible military charity rated in the top 3 percent of charities nationwide as " exceptional" by Charity Navigator in 2011.

Position: PR and Development Intern

Reports to: PR and Development Director

 San Diego Armed Services YMCA

Location: Tierrasanta

 

Qualifications:  Senior student pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree in communication, public relations, marketing, non-profit management, or a related field

 

Requirements

-          Strong writing skills

-          Excellent social and communication skills

-          Website/ social media savvy (Facebook ,Twitter, etc)

-          Strong Computer Skills (word, outlook, excel, publisher)

-          Graphics experience: not required, but preferred (Photoshop, fliers, newsletters)

-          Available to work 20 to 30 hours a week (including some nights, weekends, and early mornings for special events)

-          Available to work in San Diego until July 2012

-          Must obtain successful fingerprint clearance from the Department of Justice, as well as a drug screening

-          Must be comfortable with some minimal physical labor (lifting boxes, etc)

 

Primary Responsibilities

-          Assist with special events including The Christmas You Missed, Drew Brees Celebrity Championship, Concert on the USS Midway

-          Assist with grants, donor solicitation, and reporting

-          Assist with donor thank-you letters

-          Design promotional materials as needed

 

This internship is unpaid, but can be taken for course credit. There are also a variety of perks: Excellent experience for a resume, professional references, networking opportunities, attending and assisting at exciting events, rewarding work giving back to the military. We are looking for someone who is eager to pursue a career with a non-profit, has strong writing skills, and is comfortable with PR, networking, and media relations.
