Internship Description:

Zidisha is the world's first direct peer-to-peer lending service to bridge the international wealth divide, allowing individuals in the US and internationally to lend to and communicate with borrowers in developing countries without local intermediaries. We've been an Echoing Green finalist and semifinalist for the past two years, and been featured in numerous press and media for our groundbreaking work in using internet and mobile phone technologies to connect entrepreneurs in some of the world's most isolated and impoverished places with the international peer-to-peer lending market.

We have an opening for an entrepreneurial, self-motivated and creative university student to join our team as a Communications Associate intern.  Communications Associates may be based anywhere in the world, with flexible work hours to accommodate class or work schedules. This position is focused on sharing borrowers' stories, advancing our social media outreach, and facilitating communication between Zidisha borrowers and lenders.

Successful candidates will have a strong previous track record of paid or unpaid work for organizations, familiarity with "guerrilla marketing" and creative marketing approaches for social initiatives, strong writing and networking skills, and ability to work independently, take initiative and deliver results without an in-person supervisor. Candidates are expected to dedicate 10-20 hours per week to the position. Duties will vary depending on the incumbent's skills and interests, and may include liaison with mainstream and local press and webloggers, internet social networking, liaison with college microfinance clubs, organization of awareness parties, and creation of YouTube videos featuring footage of Zidisha borrowers.

Zidisha is a small and innovative start-up nonprofit organization. As such, the incumbent will have a good deal of freedom to propose and execute their own ideas and initiatives. Successful performance will have a major impact on the volume of loans funded through our lending platform, extending life-changing microcredit opportunities to many more disadvantaged entrepreneurs.
